Located about 30 Kilometres by road from the Nairobi Central Business District, Ruiru is one of the major fastest growing towns located along Thika Road.

BRIEF HISTORY OF RUIRU
Ruiru was formerly a sisal and coffee-growing district on either side of the river to the main road to Thika.

Currently, it is a housing area. There was a 4 main manager houses on the estate on the Southside of the river.
The area was eventually given to a group of Kenyans so that it could be developed into smallholdings in the 1970s

POPULATION HISTORY
The population of Ruiru was estimated to be 238858 residents in 2009. However in 2019, a decade later, the census report revealed the population of this Thika Road town to be 490120 residents.

This uptick in population growth could be attributable to factors such as The increased infrastructural development especially The Thika Road Highway and The Nairobi Eastern Bypass Highway, the increased commercial and residential development that ensued from the development of the highways, the shortage of residential housing within Nairobi and also the presence of University Campuses along The Highway or near Ruiru.
